"A WILSHIRE WEDDING"
You do not have to be a member to have your wedding in the magnificent
gothic cathedral of Wilshire United Methodist church, situated in elegant
Hancock Park.  Designated a Historic Landmark, Wilshire has been the site
of thousands of beautiful and sacred ceremonies over the  years.







The Sanctuary, which is fully air conditioned, boasts an array of glorious
stained glass windows and an awesome pipe organ.  It seats from 150 to
more than 500 guests without looking either empty or overcrowded.  Those
who look up will see a breathtaking hand stenciled ceiling that took 10,000
man hours to accomplish.  The carpeted center aisle is 100 feet long.








The Chancel area at the front is an ideal “stage” for the wedding party, and
can gracefully accommodate up to 10 bridesmaids and groomsmen, although
3 to 5 is average.








All the wrought iron chandeliers and theatrical spotlights are dimmer
controlled so that many moods can be created.  The sound system is modern
and versatile.  There are wireless microphones  available for the minister(s).  
Cassettes and CDs can be played through the sound system, and electronic
instruments can be plugged into it.

The front lobby (Narthex) of the Church is large enough for gift and guest
book tables with ample room for the family and wedding party to line up.

For your soloist there is a wonderful old 9’ Steinway Concert Grand piano.  
The Church Organist will accompany your Soloist at no additional cost,
rehearsing one hour before the ceremony.  Outside musicians and
instruments are welcomed.  You may include drums and ethnic instruments.  
You have great freedom in your choice of music, guided by the Wedding
Director.  Dance worship is also permitted, under the guidance of the
Director.  Ethnic or family traditions can become part of the ceremony.

You may use your own Pastor if He/She is ordained in any mainstream
Christian denomination and permitted to perform marriages by the state of
California.  No co-officiant from  Wilshire Methodist is required, and your
Pastor is not obligated to call or write for permission.

If you do not have a  minister, you can choose one from WUMC’s
multicultural staff, who can preside in English, Korean, Spanish or Tagalog.  
The suggested minimum for this is $250.00, and premarital meetings are
included. Rehearsals are usually scheduled on the Thursday or Friday night
before the wedding at 6:00, 7:00 or 8:30 PM.  There is an extra large,
“movie star” dressing room for the bride and her party.  It is air conditioned
and has its own oversized restroom.  There is a locked storage area for
valuables and an abundance of dressing tables and mirrors.
